Phoenix crash leaves man dead, woman injured: police

A man is dead and a woman is injured following a crash in north Phoenix. Phoenix Police say the single-car crash happened on Aug. 18 near 21st Avenue and Bell Road. A man in his late-40s was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. No identities were released. It's unclear what caused the driver to lose control of the car and crash into the pole.  Bell Road is closed from 21st to 23rd Avenues due to the crash. Drivers are advised to avoid the area.

Las Vegas police: Motorcyclist dies after hitting pickup truck

A 57-year-old man was killed this morning after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a truck near the Las Vegas Strip, according to Metro Police. The crash happened about 5 a.m. on Desert Inn Road, east of Joe W. Brown Drive, police said. A pickup truck was traveling west on Desert Inn approaching a red light at the intersection with Joe W. Brown, police said.  The motorcycle was also heading west on Desert Inn while splitting lanes and crashed into the back of the truck just east of the intersection, police said. The motorcyclist was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where they died, police said.  The Clark County Coroner's Office will release the motorcyclists name after his family has been notified, police said.

The crash happened about 1:35 a.m. near Resorts World Las Vegas, police said. A car was stopped facing south in a left turn lane when it made an abrupt right turn to enter Resorts World, police said. SAN JOSE, Calif. -- A sports utility vehicle hit a tree, killing the driver, in a crash in San Jose Saturday morning, police said. A 2005 Infiniti sports utility vehicle was traveling westbound on West Hedding Street around 3 a.m. Saturday when it left the roadway and collided with a tree on the north side of the street, according to police. The man who was driving the SUV sustained major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The cause of the collision will remain under investigation. The man's name will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after confirming his identity and notifying next of kin.
